The Kailasgiri Hilltop Park is a location beyond description. It is a planned venture and has been built on the top of a hill in Kailasgiri covering close to 380 acres. The park includes a beautiful statue of Lord Shiva made out of white limestone which is also popular among devotees.
Kailasgiri is among the most popular tourist destinations in Visakhapatnam. The city has been developed by VUDA as a tourism centric region and this has immensely contributed to the region’s economy. Before the development of such projects Visakhapatnam was just a port city depending completely in import and export businesses. Today more than 42% of its revenue is generated from Tourism. The Kailasgiri Hilltop Park is a location beyond description. It is a planned venture and has been built on the top of a hill in Kailasgiri covering close to 380 acres. The park includes a beautiful statue of Lord Shiva made out of white limestone which is also popular among devotees. The best experience at Kailasgiri Visakhapatnam which cannot be missed is a ride in the Kailasgiri Ropeway. It is a ride over the beautiful valleys of Visakhapatnam which are known for their lush green forests. The view from the top is just exotic and cannot be compared to anything earthly. The ride is also quite economic and easily fit into my budget. After taking a long ride in the ropeway I felt energetic and decided to take a trekking session at the Kailasgiri Park. The park is just immense and completely natural. In order to preserve the natural beauty of the park and also to keep it popular among tourists the park has been declared as a plastic free zone by the local administration. You are not allowed to carry any eatables packed in plastic into the park and not even disposable plastic water bottles are allowed as they lead to a lot of litter. This hygienic setting has made the park an example for other such tourist spots in India which are usually marked by heaps of litter. The local authorities have won several awards and acclaims for maintaining a beautiful park. The park won the 2003 “best tourist spot of Andhra Pradesh” award. It also has become widely popular amongst foreign tourists both because of the natural beauty and the general cleanliness. The park is also easily accessible both by bus and taxi.

Victory at Sea War Memorial Visakhapatnam : After a spellbinding and awe- filled experience in the Submarine Museum, it seemed like the saga was not over with the War Memorial on the other side of the RK Beach Road. With very less to show, this landmark is striped with colors of glory and honor in memory of the war fought against Pakistan in 1971. Life- size Navy ships, torpedo, uniforms, marine rifles was showcased in here along with the bloodshed victory sprinkled across the 50*50 Sq ft yard.
I am a nature lover but it doesn’t take one to appreciate the immense beauty of the Borra caves in Visakhapatnam. The caves were first discovered in 1807 but are thousands of years old. They present some of the best examples of stalactite and stalagmite formations in the world. These are formed by the slow deposition of Karstic Limestone. The river Gosthani flows over the surface of these caves and the water percolates through the surface dissolving limestone with it. The formations that form from the roof of the caves are called stalactites and those which form on the floor are called stalagmites. At an average these structures take as long as 1500 years to form and some can date back to the age of the cave itself. Some of these formations have captured people’s imagination so much that they have sought divine explanations for their origin. The Linga shaped columns have been worshipped as Lord Shiva idols for hundreds of years now. Other formations resemble the Goddess Parvati, the human brain, a bear and much more. These features attract all ranging from general adventurers, professionals, devotees and to scientists and geologists. The place has been well developed for tourists as all basic amenities are made available close to the site. Trained guides are available. Rescue teams are always at bay and many safety measures have been implemented to avoid misadventures. Other structures in the Borra Caves in Visakhapatnam include flowstones, pillars, drapers and straws. The entire cave is marked with these structures of various sizes, shapes and proportions. A well lit cave looks even more beautiful due to multiple reflections especially from the water that flows slowly on the floors of the cave. Many bioluminescent microbes have also made this cave their habitat and produce extraordinary displays of light.
My trip to the Borra Caves in Visakhapatnam was a great adventure. I enjoyed every moment, every formation and every view of the valley beneath the caves. I intend to come back to these caves and explore even more, its dark secrets. Katiki Falls Visakhapatnam : If you are a potent bargainer and a carefree soul with all the adventure and travel spirit uploaded, the Katiki Falls is your place. A well paid jeep ride through the rough trail and jaunty jungle will take you to this cascading paradise! Don’t hesitate to stop by for a really tantalizing bamboo chicken exclusively prepared by the local tribe. A blissful shower under those cleansed waters made me forget everything. (Even my essay on Western Banking System which was due the next day!)
I am a young and energetic student from Chennai and hence my life is all about constantly moving. I admire change and am bored very quickly. In whatever time I get away from my academic schedule I like to explore the vastness of India. I have already travelled over 15 states and my journey to Andhra Pradesh has just begun. Quite often we are so attracted and mesmerised by the desire to reach our destination that we forget to enjoy the journey. I like to travel just for the sake of this fun. The joy of the journey cannot be compared to anything else. Meeting new people on the way teaches you not just lessons but volumes about life. I had a short vacation and hence I decided to go to a nearby location. Chennai-Vishakhapatnam distance is just 781 km and I decided to cover this via train. The Indian Railways has a great network across the country and especially in Southern India. The connectivity to various cities from the metropolitan of Chennai is immense and this is one of the perks associated with living in the state capital. I took the Bangalore Express which started from Chennai at 7:40 in the morning. he total travel time was around thirteen hours and I decided to travel by this particular train because of two primary reasons. First being that it is seldom delayed and reaches the destination Vishakhapatnam at 8:20 in the night. At this time commutation is not a problem in Vishakhapatnam and hence I had no difficulty in reaching my hotel. The second reason for choosing Bangalore Express was the hygienic environment of this train. Trains in India are often quite unhygienic and hence travelling becomes a burden. In trains like Bangalore express travel in fun. After reaching my hotel covering an 800 km Chennai-Vishakhapatnam distance I was quite tired. I unpacked, rechecked my reservations for the next day and went to sleep with thoughts of how I would spend the coming days in the city of Vishakhapatnam completely engulfing me.

New day at Gulbarga and my eye was set on the Deval Ghanagpura Gulbarga. With blue skies and brightly sun, I set on another exciting journey. Located in Afzalpur Taluk village of Karnataka, it indeed had the most amazing picturesque. Famous for its Kalleshwar and Nirgun Math Temple the village also has a popular tourist attraction called Sangam. Also that known as Sangam Kshetra it is the meeting point of two rivers, Amarja and Bhima. I picked an interesting tale about the village that in the Ash Hills a popular tourist’s attraction is located in the same village, which is close to the Sangam. The ash hills are famous because it is said that the name Ash Hills is given as it is made of the ashes of the Lord Pershuram. According to the saying, Lord Pershuram performed his meditation there. It is considered holy places were anyone with pure heart and good intentions can wash away all his sins. Apart from the holy spot tourists also visited Chakra Theertha and Narishma Theertha to wash away their bad deeds.
With so many places to be the sin done, Deval Ghangapura Gulbarga is one of the most sacred and also untouched lands from the current disasters of human. The calmness and purity of the land reflects the touch of God. Apart from the purity Deval Ghanagapura always serves with tasty foods. After a long walk around the temples I was exhausted and found a shelter in the near fast food centre. With a bite of food and sip of water, the exhaustion was over. After completing food, I again went on for the walk around the village. Deval Ghanagapura provides with brilliant souvenirs like handmade jewelleries and bracelets for men along with the small statues and designs portraits of the temple, which is the best possible way to keep the memories of the journey alive for infinity. After roaming around it was time for me to say goodbye to the village and return to the hotel. I booked a car for the travel as the transportation facility of Deval Ghangapura was not known to me. Malpuri – Local Cuisine Gulbarga : After checking out the Khwaja Bande Nawaz dargah, we tried out this really amazing local cuisine of Gulbarga called Malpuri after our meal. After have a delicious biryani, this dish was the perfect dessert. If you are in Gulbarga and love sweets then you must definitely check out Malpuri. It is a great South Indian sweet dish.
No matter how great the land is, the energy to see it can only be achieved by food. To boost up my energy I went to Good Luck Restaurant Gulbarga. Located near a school the restaurant was almost full. After waiting for a while, I got my seat and was all set to eat. The menu contained all my favourite items so it took me some time to decide to choose my dish. The services of restaurant were outstanding. Instead of a crowd, the crew maintained their pace and provided delicious food to everyone. It was not easy to work smoothly when you have all the seats full and people are watching the doors of the kitchen so that the next coming dish will be served on their table. However, with the efficiency the restaurant did not take much time and the customer did not had to wait. Offering all types of cuisines like Chinese, Veg and Non-Veg and also the specials of multi cuisines made me hungrier than before. On my way of waiting for the food, I glanced outside the window and saw huge queue of people waiting for the fast food services and within minutes, new faces were near the counter. The fast service with the best quality of food helped the Good Luck Restaurant to win best the Veg restaurant award in the town. It was hard for me to believe the excellence of the restaurant but after tasting my food there was no space left for any type of question. I would surely suggest all my friends, colleagues and relatives about the exquisite food available in the Good Luck Restaurant Gulbarga. After the mouth watering food it was time for some desserts for which there was no room left inside me but I also did not wanted to lose the precious opportunity of having the bite of this mesmerizing restaurant. After finishing I paid for my food and went on for looking for some new adventure in this unique city. I checked my list and it was time to be a little holy with Deval Ghanagapur Gulbarga.
It was a wonderful situation for the spectators to enjoy the amazing sceneries. Although the weather was a bit moist but it did not stopped people to enjoy them at this lovely spot. I was also ready to have a picnic of my own with the necessary product available in the local street market nearby. Considered as one of the prominent dam in India, it provides the complete beauty of nature for its travellers. Built across the River Krishna, Narayanapura Dam Gulbarga gives breath taking sites to the visitors. It is also known as the Basvana Sagar Dam which is a single purpose project and was meant for irrigation. Drinking water production and generation of the downstream electricity are also some major functions of these dams. The evening was on its way and the weather change was noticeable. Farmers near the dam feared the loss of their crops because of weak monsoon got help from the dam as the gates were open in such a manner that it emits less water but enough to help out the needs of the local farmers. More than the falls, the resultant of the rock formation those are being formed at footsteps of the fall is another major attraction of the dam of Gulbarga. The locals were taking snapshots and videos of the attraction and the cool breezes created by the thundering water set the appropriate mood to have an enjoyable time. With my little picnic, I could enjoy the music of the birds chirruping and the visual of the setting sun which made me forget about my busy work days and made my mind peaceful. The sights here were truly unforgettable. I wished just to sit and watch around the dam that demonstrated the calmness of the water. Narayanapura Dam Gulbarga has the best atmosphere to make me feel that I was at the right spot and the right time. My journey to Gulbarga was almost at the end but some places as good luck restaurant was still left to give me some energy for the sightseeing and enjoying the beauty of Gulbarga.
