After checking out the exhibits at the state museum, we hired a private car to reach Khola, which was one of the entry points to enter the park. The park was different than what I had seen and read on the website. It was equally as good as we had seen in the photo gallery on the website. The large and dense mangrove forest was embedded with varieties of different species and breeds of animals, birds and water bodies. The forest was located in Kendrapara district of Orissa and was known for its embracing floral and faunal beauty and enthralling eco systems with its heart-touching natural showers. It was also known as the land of species where teams of scientists, nature lovers, tourists and scholars came to quench their thirst of exploring the forest.
Camping in a dense forest always remained my dream from the time when I was a teenager and I was supposed to join my school’s NCC team, but due to some problems the chance was missed. But it is said that there is never too late to begin anything, and this saying proved it right when I again got the opportunity to spend some time in the most famous mangrove forest of India known as the Bhitarkanika National Park, Odisha. Since all my friends loved different kinds of foods and were passionate about adventure, we were extremely excited and decided to spend more time there. We had contacted the Sand pebbles jungle resorts to book our Swiss tents which offered all the amenities such as attached bathroom, 24-hour water supply, complimentary meals, bonfire place, well-furnished tents, restaurant, fishing rod, etc. After checking out the exhibits at the state museum, we hired a private car to reach Khola, which was one of the entry points to enter the park. We began with the mouth-watering breakfast comprised of hot vegetable cutlets, grilled sandwiches, etc., and we went on trekking the forest with a joy of experiencing nature in real and saw almost all the animals such as deer, jungle cat, wild boar, leopard cat, and reptiles like crocodile, turtle, and lots of migratory birds. However, kingfisher was surprisingly colorful. Though the journey was long, there were so many things to see that it seemed to be very short one, which ended in a wink of an eye and left back the memories of a wonderful weekend in a forest like Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha.
