Church Of Our Lady Of Immaculate Conception Goa : The Sun, Sand And A Wave Of Spirituality!11/4/2013 Our family was dining one night and we hit upon the idea of a holiday on a beach. We joked and laughed at what each one of us would like to do and how we would spend our money. The males were interested in wine and food, while we females had shopping on our list. I am a student, 23 years old and spiritual to an extent. Young and energetic, I have an inclination to adventure trips, trekking and camping. Our recent vacation was to Uttarakhand for a holy dip in the Ganges. This trip is to Goa... my father said. Yippee! Miles to go before I sleep... I was dreaming of a fun filled vacation. We decided to drive through the Western Ghats and enjoy the natural beauty of the land. Churches are seen at short distances and the gentle breeze soothes my face. Morning, midnight or noon, there is no end of fun and frolic in Goa. One can just hangout at the beach any time of the day and enjoy the oceanic panorama. Nightlife in Goa is exciting with an array of discos and clubs too choose from. A Theatre Festival is organized for three days where dance and theatre performers come under one roof. Most eateries serve exquisite seafood and other Goan delicacies. Although on a tight budget, we had much fun doing window-shopping and surfing the waters with the oceanic panorama. Grabbing a bite, a drink and hitting the beach! The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is the first church to be built in Goa. The interiors are simple; the altar is dedicated to Mary Immaculate. There are two altars on either side, the left one is dedicated to Jesus crucified and the right one is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. Standing on the gallery of this church we can view entire Panjim. A huge bell hangs in the central belfry. The feast of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church is celebrated on 8th December every year. The church is beautifully decorated with lights and the sound of fireworks. In fact the location of the church is so popular that many film shootings have taken place. Set on a high hill, this church is indeed the crown of Panjim city.
