It was the perfect place in the city to begin my Gujarat trip. Also the visit to the nearby riverfront of Gandhi ashram is a nice place to hangout. Once done with the trip to the Sabarmati ashram, the next place which I decided to visit was the Bhadra fort of Ahmedabad. It is a historical fort located in the middle of the city.
The flight from Chennai to Ahmedabad was a bit tiring. I went straight to my hotel where I had lunch and after that was ready to begin my travel incursions in the city. The first place which I had chosen for this trip was the Sabarmati ashram of Mahatma Gandhi. A place that was instrumental in shaping the freedom struggle of India. I had seen this place on television many times but this was my first visit here. Sabarmati Ashram is a place where Gandhi spent most of his time while returning to India from South Africa. It is a place which is widely regarded as a symbol of Gandhian ethos and values. The entry to the ashram is free for everyone and a large number of tourists and visitors can be seen to visit the place every day. The feeling of peace and calm that one feels inside the ashram is exquisite. The ashram was built to give training and motivation to all the followers of the Gandhi and motivated them to follow the doctrines of nonviolence and non-cooperation. The teachings and philosophy of Gandhi is very well reflected inside the ashram. Gandhi will always be revered by everyone and this is the reason why a large number of people come from far off places to visit the ashram. Gandhi was referred as Bapu by his followers. The Gandhi’s room inside the ashram is in a very neat and clean condition and houses his desk, chair and charkha. One is allowed to do photography inside the ashram. For those interested in learning the Gandhian thought and philosophy this is a place they should visit. There is a big library here which sells all the books and essays written by Gandhi.
