It was the sixth day of my stay in Chhattisgarh. No doubt the state if filled with natural resources and each and every part of the place has some uniqueness in it; however Bastar is one such part of the state which endeavors the best places of Chhattisgarh. On the sixth day of my Chhattisgarh visit, I decided to take the plunge of going to the Kutumsar Caves. The Kutumsar Caves are located at a distance of approximately 40 kilometers from Jagdalpur. One can reach almost every lookout place of the state from Jagdalpur as it is the nearest depot where one can find buses and trains quite conveniently. The Kutumsar Caves elongates itself and sprawls over a large area of 1371 meters. They are found below the ground at a level of 35 meters depth. Locate beside the Kanger River, the subterranean limestone cave provides an awesome place for leisurely walk and hangout. The Kanger Valley National Park is also located beside the caves. I had made a visit to the Kanger Valley Park on the first day, but however I missed to make it up to the Kutamsar caves. So finally I made out one more day for visiting the marvelous caves. The Caves were discovered long ago in the year 1900. With about more than thousand years having passed through all these periods, the caves are well maintained by the Government and now it is a tourist place which provides the much required information regarding the history of Chhattisgarh as well as India. The floors of the caves are filled with sediments, silt, clay, pebbles and sand; however one can find a great time in exploring the caves. The temperature within the caves is just ample with 25 degree Celsius. And the darkness within it just speaks how the people in earlier times might be staying or hiding here. There are steel railings all through the walkway of the caves so that people can take help of those to reach near the caves which are much rocky and uneven.
I could also notice a variety of animals like snakes, frogs, rodents, spiders and millipedes within the caves which were obviously not too beautiful! And one needs to take great care while walking through the caves, especially in the evening. The fourth day of my stay in Chhattisgarh was spent at the Hasdeo Bango Dam where I had a splendid evening. On the next day I decided to go for an awe inspiring trip to the Chitrakoot Falls. It was not for the first time I was going to visit natural waterfall in Chhattisgarh. I had already visited the Tirathgarh Waterfalls here. However natural reservoirs have always captivated me and they have an appeal which drags me towards exploring them more and more. Therefore on the fifth day I finally decided to make a trip to the Chitrakoot Falls, which is apparently known as the largest waterfalls of the country and also compared with the majestic Niagara Falls which lies on the border of Canada and United State of America. The Chitrakoot Falls are found at a distance of 38 kilometers from the west of Jagdalpur. The roadway is excellent and provides the driver an awesome mood to cut the varying terrains and reach the paradise. River Indravati collapses into a steep height of 100 feet cavern and hence gives rise to the spectacular waterfalls. As I reached at the waterfall area, there were hundreds of people who were already present for the evening and taking photographs of each other. As I was my own lone companion, I pulled out my DSLR and clicked random pictures of the land terrain and water body. The waterfall area is indeed an incredible manifestation of pure nature surrounded with the might of the Vindhya Ranges. The aesthetics of Chhattisgarh is seen in its dams, water bodies such as falls and river valleys and this place surely stands out to the expectation of providing a magnificent place for leisurely stroll. It was my first visit to Chhattisgarh and first ever visit to the Chitrakoot Falls and it was truly mesmerizing. The period from the months of July to October is known to be the best time as the Indravati River is said to take its perennial traversal from the Vindhya Ranges. The ecstasy of the place is bound to floor each and every visitor. The soothing and serene view of the waterfall made my day and I came back to my hotel with a peaceful mind and soul.
Bhoramdeo Temple, Chhattisgarh : Are you a devotee of Lord Shiva? In that case, your trip to Chhattisgarh cannot be complete without a visito the Bhoramdeo Temple Chhattisgarh. It is an amazing Hindu temple that is built in a typical fashion. The temple is located on the mountain ranges. The view from the temple is also scenic and beautiful.
After spending an awe inspiring day at one of the premier educational institutes of the country at NIT, Raipur on the third day, I decided to move on for the spectacular Hasdeo Bango Dam here. Since the day one at Chhattisgarh, I had a good amount of time spending in most of the visiting places of the state. Bastar provided me a place filled with natural resources at the Kanger Valley National Park and Tirathgarh Waterfall. Finally it was the day for a visit to the splendid dams of the state. Chhattisgarh is a state much known for its natural resources and dams. These dams are majestic and display the mastery of man-made architecture over rivers. Apart from the common purpose of resolving the drinking water issue of the people staying in Chhattisgarh, the dams also portray the best part of the human brain through the sturdy and robust construction works. There are several hydroelectric projects that are undertaken by the Government of the state for which the presence of dams are mandatory. Finally, the presence of these dams amidst the lush green and lively forest settings make them the perfect for tourist visit. Even children come to see the dam and its construction for expanding their knowledge and school projects. The Hasdeo Bango Dam is constructed on the Hasdeo River in the state of Chhattisgarh. Located at a distance of just 70 kilometers from Korba in the Korba district, the dam spreads across a large area with a catchment of 6730 square kilometers. The dam serves as the main source of power plant for the NTPC and it also serves the purpose of irrigation to the farmers staying in the nearby cities and villages.
I learnt a lot of things regarding the construction of sturdy projects like dam. Apart from knowledge, the place provides a good ambience to the local people staying around that region. It is quite a good place to be visited during summers and winters. However, there are restrictions on visiting the dam in monsoons as the roads may get slippery and the risen water level might lead to causing of several fatal accidents. It was a much awaited beautiful summer vacation. I had planned for this period since a long time and as finally the much awaited summer vacation had commenced, I didn’t want any shortcomings in my trip. I booked my tickets in the Korba express to travel from Chennai to Raipur and booked myself a decent accommodation from internet itself so that I had not to go worrying for a place to stay in during my visit to Raipur. I booked an economy room in the Hotel City Palace, Raipur which is one of the finest accommodations amidst the city. I reached at the Raipur junction at around 11 pm in the night. As soon as I reached the railway station, I hired a cab to drive me to the hotel. The hotel is at a distance of just 2 kilometers from the Raipur Railway Station. I had deliberately booked this hotel knowing that the railway station is close and it would not create much difficulty in reaching at the hotel on time. The hotel hosts a decent décor of rooms to its dwellers and offers them all sorts of luxuries during the stay. Apart from the fact that the hotel is located in close proximity to the Raipur railway station, there are number of other places in the close vicinity. The hotel is located in the Banjari Road in Golbazar. The Balaji temple, Maitri Baghzoo, Mahant Ghasi Das Memorial Museum, Hatkeshwar Mahadev temple and Dudhadari temple are also located quite near. So I had planned few lookouts to these places as well when I am done with the regular trips. The rooms of the hotel are contemporarily designed with warm colors in the interior and well furnished to provide the guests a warmth of reception. LED cable television, tea/coffee maker, intercom telephone facilities and Wi-Fi services add to the charm of your stay. Running cold and hot water with added features in the bathroom increased the lavish of the stay. Other conveniences offered can be listed down as twenty fours front desk assistance, travel assistance. Laundry facilities, car rental, room service, car parking and currency exchange are the other facilities one can avail during the stay.
Hotel City Palace, Raipur also promises its guest the warmth of service and hospitality. It was a truly delighting experience. Raipur Jail Emporium, Chhattisgarh : We got down at Raipur railway station and were off to our hotel. Thats when I saw this jail emporium. I really wanted to visit this emporium. However, it had been closed for the past few days due to some official reasons. May be I’ll check it out during my next Raipur trip :)
One would never find a single student who is not aspiring to get into a premier engineering college of the country after IITs, which is the NIT. The National Institute of Technology is a premier and frontline education providing college which have its branches spread all over the country. After spending a fabulous day at the Tirathgarh Falls on the second day, I decided to make a visit to NIT, Raipur on the third day of my stay at Raipur. The institution at Raipur was established in the year 1956 and since then it has been furnishing top-grade engineers ever year. The educational institute not only provides degree in under graduate program but also in Post Graduate program. In the under graduate program, there are about 3200 seats while for post graduate, there are 250 seats. One of my relatives being a faculty member in NIT, Rourkela opened me ways to visit the NIT at Raipur. My relative talked with one of the lecturers at Raipur NIT and he guided me to visit the entire campus. He said that students majorly study the under graduate program here and the prime aim of students after intermediate in science is to get into any of the NITs in the country. At Raipur, the NIT offers two courses, mainly the B. Tech and B. Arch. The B. Tech program is basically the degree of engineering. Bachelor in Technology is what a person is known after completing education under the program. The B. Arch program provides training to the students to learn Architecture and take up the same as their career option. The NIT, Raipur is currently one of the 20 NITs of the country which produces talented engineers in different fields of engineering. The different branches of study of engineering are Electronics and Telecommunication, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Applied Electronics, Mechanical, Civil and few more. The fee of the entire course per year is also very nominal unlike other engineering colleges of the country. At NIT, Raipur, the course fees is just Rs. 35, 000 per year.
It was the second day of my stay in Chhattisgarh. The first day was a pleasurable one as I had been to the Kangeri Valley National park for a wonderful time amidst the natural resources of Bastar. On the second day I decided to make a visit to the much famous Tirathgarh Waterfalls which is quite a popular picnic place among the local people of the state. However for people like me who love to find and appreciate the beauty of nature in every possible way, this place is more or less similar to a paradise. The cascading milky white waterfall with the formation of layered rock actually enhanced the beauty of the place. The water fell atop a height of 300 feet creating ripples and mesmerizing effect all over the ground. There are two ways through the falls can be reached. The one is via roadways and other is through the water body by which one needs to hike and reach at the top. I chose the second one for obvious reasons. The roadway didn’t attract me and it wasn’t interesting as compared to the waterway. As the second option was much captivating and adventurous I chose to do that. The splashing of water comes with an incredible speed and from a great height, finally reaching at the Mugabhar River that originates from a lake. Adding to the beauty of the pearly white falls there is the abundance of lush green forests and valleys which make the place more like a paradise. The water falls through various zigzag paths finally making its way to the river at the bottom. Apart from all the natural beauties and adventures at the Tirathgarh Waterfalls, the place is also famous for yet another reason, which is the presence of a beautiful temple of Shiva-Parvati. The name claims it so and therefore numerous visitors get attracted towards the waterfalls. The beauty of the place is enhanced with the presence of the much peaceful and serene temple of the God and Goddess. The spectacular view can be enjoyed to the fullest during the months from October to February which is preferably the winter period in India. Maikal Hills In Chhattisgarh : No nature lover can miss going to the Maikal Hills. The scenic view from here is impeccable. I enjoyed clicking photographs from this location. I am hoping to visit the spot again in my next holidays. I have even added these photographs to my travel album as the visit was truly memorable.
