As a student, I await the summer vacation to take a break from books and college. The routine of the day and loads to study can drain me at times. A holy dip in the Ganges or trekking the mountains on the Western Ghats, I like a vacation! I am a young, adventure enthusiast and enjoy life to the fullest. To get away from the hot summer, I love to cool off in the beaches of Goa, and indulge in some street shopping. Planning a trip with few of my female friends, we packed our back packs, and with the pocket money we saved we began our journey to the city that never sleeps. We friends chose a nominally priced hotel in Panjim as we were on a tight budget. Since we were close to the Goa University, we caught a glimpse of the campus. This University was designed by Satish Gujral, a sculptor, painter, muralist, architect and graphic designer. He faced criticism for the type of model in which this University was built. It is built in Panjim, the capital of Goa state. This building overlooks the Arabian sea and the famous Dona Paula a tourist attraction. The sprawling campus with all the greenery and fresh air is inviting. The university houses two centres namely Centrer of Latin American Studies and Caribbean Studies and Center of Women’s studies. The university is one of the must-sees while in Goa. We visited quite a few churches, did some street shopping and picked up clothes and junk jewellery for cheap. The Portuguese culture, cuisine, entertainment and theatre leave me asking for more. Goan cuisine has a wide variety of non-vegetarian dishes and vegetarian fare. We relished the fish curry and rice, prawn fry, mussels, soups and feni. Goans have music in their blood and why not I groove to some beats? So, I let my hair down and danced the night away in a disco. My friends and I thought we should try out the night club. We had a great time, eating, drinking and dancing while the music never stopped playing.
